Let it Rain! - Lake Ahquabi Update
Will Lake Ahquabi be ready for us to open our rental business on Memorial Day weekend?
The answer is probably. In a recent discussion with Craig Oberbroeckling, the Park Ranger at Lake Ahquabi State Park, we were happy to hear that the lake outflow has been plugged and it’s in the process of filling. There are still a lot of things needing to be completed in the park but the key is if here is enough water in the lake for us to operate we’ll be able to do so.
Work around the park is progressing and it appears to be on schedule for Memorial Day weekend. Pouring concrete for the beach parking lot should happen as soon as the frost is gone. A new bathroom is being constructed adjoining our rental building and the old bathrooms at the top of the beach are being renovated. There is still work being done in the campground but that is also expected to be ready by Memorial Day Weekend.
Rental equipment has already been acquired in anticipation of the lake being ready. Our canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards have all been purchased and are just waiting in the retail store in Indianola. Paddleboats and row boats from previous seasons are already at the lake and will get cleaned up and tuned up as soon as the road and parking lot is finished. We will be purchasing additional lifejackets and paddles in the next few weeks.
If all goes well our first official day of business will be Saturday, May 27th and we will be opening at 8 am. Regardless of the situation at Lake Ahquabi State Park we will open the Raccoon River Park Boathouse for the season on Saturday, May 27th starting at 8 am.
