Lake Superior and the Inland Sea Kayak Symposium, June 14 - 17, 2006

Jeff and Casey enjoyed four days instructing and guiding at the Inland Sea Kayak Symposium on Lake Superior in Washburn, Wisconsin from June 14 through June 17, 2006.

Jeff took part in his instructor updates for his ACA Coastal Sea Kayak certification on Thursday. Gail Green and Grant Herman from Living Adventures were the lead trainers. They were joined by Leon Somme and Shawna Franklin from Body, Boat, Blade located on Orcas Island near Seattle, Washington. Jeff spent time updating teaching techniques and learned more about using wing paddles and traditional paddling.

On Friday Jeff and Casey helped guide a group of 26 paddlers on a 16 mile paddle to Raspberry Island. Perfect weather and warmer than expected water temperatures made for an excellent day. We swam off the beach near the lighthouse.

Saturday was spent teaching several clinics to a variety of paddlers attending the event. Casey taught two women's clinics. Jeff taught Beyond Basic Rescues and Intermediate Strokes.

Saturday afternoon brought a few thunder storms and some rain. Our last clinic was cut short by lightning, but we worked on a few shoreling skills and then enjoyed an awesome dinner and some entertainment before heading home.
