Adam Brooks Adam started paddling about six years ago, after his father died of cancer, and has enjoyed several amazing paddling adventures. He realized his life long dream of paddling the length of the Mississippi and then followed it with a trip down the length of the Misouri River. This past summer he journeyed north to take on the Yukon River. |
Jon Nelson Jon grew up in Montevideo, Minnesota and moved to Canada in 1973. He and his wife worked as Park Rangers in Quetico from 1976 through 1987. He returned to school, obtaining a degree in archaeology, and then spent 6 additional summers doing research in the Park. He has written, Quetico:Near To Nature's Heart about the natural and human history of the region. |
Jim Grace Jim has been making photos seriously for almost twenty-five years and paddling photos for nearly fifteen. His images have been in many publications, including Canoe & Kayak, Paddler, Sea Kayaker, and River. He is a former wildlife biologist and lives on a farm in Northwest Missouri. |
Steve Parrish Steve is a well-known local paddler and former editor of the Central Iowa Paddlers newsletter. He has paddled in 18 states and 4 countries, including the Everglades, Isle Royale, the Apostle Islands, the Slate Islands. He' s also a frequent paddler of Lake Red Rock and Lake Rathbun. |
Larry Hindes An avid Sea Kayaker and skiing enthusiast, Larry helps guide trips for the University of Iowa Outdoor Programs. He also teaches many of their paddling courses and is a certified kayak instructor through the American Canoe Association. |
John Pearson John is well-known among Iowa paddlers for participating in project AWARE river cleanups, organizing history tours of forest and prairie preserves, and leading eco tours of Lake Red Rock for CanoeSport. John has paddled the Ozarks, Yellowstone Lake, Okeefenokee Swamp, Isle Royale, Puget Sound, and the Texas Gulf Coast, among others. |
Jeff Holmes Jeff started CanoeSport Outfitters almost fifteen years ago. He's been the publisher of Canoeing Iowa magazine and is currently an ACA Certified Coastal Sea Kayak Instructor. He's solo kayaked the Everglades and paddled many coastal areas including North Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Texas, and Vancouver Island. He's canoed the BWCA, whitewater kayaked in Minnesota and South Carolina, and paddled most rivers and lakes in Iowa. |
Ben Petty Ben is an avid paddler and fisherman of Iowa's rivers and streams. He also enjoys trout fishing in Wyoming and Colorado. Along with paddling locally, he's paddled in Canada, Colorado, Missouri, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. His other pursuits include photography, biking, and backpacking |
Marty Koch Marty has been an avid paddler since the early 70's. He's enjoyed numerous trips on the streams of Missouri and Arkansas and has frequented both the BWCAW and Quetico. He's also paddled the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. He spent nearly 17 years as a park ranger for the St. Louis County Department of Parks and Recreation and then served as the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor for St. Louis County. |
Tom Watson Tom Watson has been involved in kayaking from a variety of perspectives: kayak touring operator on Kodiak Island in Alaska; currently a contributing columnist for Paddling.net's "Guidelines"; has authored four guide books including "How To Think Like A Survivor" and "Kids Gone Paddlin." He spent five years in marketing at We-no-nah Canoe and Current Designs Kayaks in We-no-nah, Minnesota. He is currently a full time freelance outdoor writer living in western Minnesota. |
Brian "Doc" Lange Doctor Lange is a practicing Chiropractic Physician in Knoxville, Iowa. He's been canoeing and kayaking for more than 25 years. His early experiences were canoeing trips to the BWCA. He continues to canoe and also ahs a variety of kayaking experiences on Lake Superior and other areas in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Ontario. |
