Frequently Asked Questions about Instruction

* How do I register?

By mail: send us a check with at least 50% of class, name and date of class you are signing up for. We will call you to confirm your registration when we receive your check. By phone: we can do a deposite over the phone with your Visa or Master Card By Stopping By: You can always register by stopping by our store!

* What do I need to bring to class?

We recommend you bring plenty of water, sun screen, a change of clothes (yes we will get you wet), sandles or shoes that can get wet, towel, hat, wind jacket in case of cooler weather.

* What if I don't have a paddle or PFD?

We'll provide both!

* Where are lessons at?

All lessons unless noted are held at Lake Ahquabi State Park which is about 5 miles south of Indianola. If you're coming from far away Lake Ahquabi offers a campsite and amenities for those who want to stay overnight.

* What if the weather is bad?

We hold lessons rain or shine. If weather looks iffy still plan on comming! The only time we'll postpone parts of our lesson is if we hear thunder, but still plan on showing up because it may not be thundering over Lake Ahquabi!

* Can I bring a friend?

Sure! We do require that they pre-register. Our classes often fill up so please call ahead to let us know and take care of a deposite to hold there spot.

* Will I get wet?

Well kayaking is a water sport so yes we do have you get wet. In all of our lessons we have everyone practice a wet exit to ensure that you know how to properly exit a kayak or canoe while underwater. We walk you through this process and provided 1:1 instruction in shallow water so know that you are in safe hands!

* How do I know what class to sign up for?

We recommend starting at the begining with either canoing or kayaking. Depending on what type of boating you want to do we would recommend Fundamental Kayak I, or Canoe Fundamental I.

* I took Kayaking Fundamentals I prior to 2012 what class do I need to take.

Next up you could take Kayaking Fundamentals II followed by Fundamentals III.

* I took Kayaking Fundamentals I and II prior to 2012 what do I take next.

You are more than welcome to sign up for any of the Kayaking Fundamental class again, you could take Kayak Refresher to brush up on your skills, or you could take Kayak Intermediate I.

* Something has come up and I need to cancel?

Please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel. We prefer if you let us know at least 7 days in advance.We often have a waiting list of people eager to come. If we know at least 7 days in advance we can apply 100% of your money toward a future lesson or if needed we can refund you the money. If you don't show up the day of the lesson and we have no prior arrangement we will not refund your money. We work hard to put together great lessons and some of our instructors volunteer their time so please be considerate
