Casey started paddling when her dad bought a canoe from CanoeSport Outfitters shortly after the store opened in Indianola. Several years later, she started working at the store as a part-time employee. She quickly learned the basics of kayaking and joined the staff of CanoeSport Outfitters on a sea kayaking trip to Tybee Island outside of Savannah Georgia. Building upon her first coastal kayaking trip she mastered the skill of rolling and tried her hand at whitewater on the St. Louis River. On these trips north she also became a fan of the North Shore Trail making several trips to Split Rock Lighthouse, Duluth Harbor, and the Apostle Islands. Her first journey into th Boundary Waters came in a solo canoe. She spent 4 days paddling the Saganaga, Alpine, and Sea Gull loop off the Gunflint Trail with CanoeSport staff. |
Always a fan of whitewater, she's made several trips to the Carolina's. Here she's enjoyed the Class II and III waters of the Nantahala, Chattooga, Tuskaseegee, and the Green. She also paddled the Wolf River in Wisconsin while taking part in the Girls At Play weekend. In 2005 she experienced true creeking running the exciting Knife River north of Duluth. Recently she has taken sea kayaking trips to Vancouver Island near Tofino, Appalachicola Bay and Biscayne Bay in Florida. She also paddled Lake Powell |
in Utah, canoed the Buffalo in Arkansas, and is a regular on Lake Red Rock in Iowa. She has been teaching all the Women Only kayaking classes for CanoeSport Outfitters for the past several years. And in 2005 she was an instructor at the Inland Sea Kayak Symposium in Washburn, WI. She is also the organizer of our Kayak Goddess Symposium taking place on Lake Red Rock in July of 2006 and a guide for our Women Only Everglades Adventures. Last year Casey decided to expand CanoeSport Outfitters into bicycles.Finding a lack of local bike repair shops she decided to become a bike mechanic. She currently works primarily with our bike department and still knows a lot about boating! She will repair any bike and loves the challenge of learning something new! When Casey isn't working on bikes she usually out riding! She enjoys taking Riley out and about town and keeps busy working around home and playing with Riley! |
